About Us
SMPS was founded in 1973 by marketers as The Society of Bird-doggers, a name that refers to the task of seeking out new business opportunities. At that time, increased competition and changes in professional regulations made marketing professional services both acceptable and necessary. SMPS grew out of the need for marketers to have a place to meet and exchange ideas. Since then, the Society has grown to over 6800 members in 50 chapters throughout the US.

The New York Area Chapter serves marketing professionals in New YorkCity, Northern New Jersey, Long Island, and Westchester. The chapter has more than 250 members from over 220 of the area's leading A/E/C firms. The chapter was founded in 1984 and is one of the largest chapters in the nation.

Notice to members regarding chapter by-law revisions.

The Mary Findlen Professional Development Grant

As part of SMPS-NY’s mission to promote the advancement of new talent within our industry, SMPS will present our second annual Professional Development Grant to a junior-level A/E/C marketer at our Honor Awards event in April 2011. The receipient will receive a ticket to the SMPS National Conference in Chicago on August 24 - 26, as well as transportation to and from New York City, and hotel accommodations—a total value of approximately $2500. Attendance at the National Conference can be an important step in a marketer’s career, both through the informational programs, as well as networking opportunities with colleagues from around the country. The National Conference is packed with dozens of powerful educational tracks, dynamic keynote speakers, and networking opportunities where attendees can make and renew priceless contacts with decision-makers.

SMPS-NY Mentorship Program
Now in its third year, the SMPS-NY Mentorship Program is an embodiment of our commitment to our members’ personal growth and professional development. In 2011, we encourage professionals at all stages of their career to consider participating - either as a protégés and mentors.  No matter where you are in your career, you can gain important benefits from participating in a mentor-protégé relationship and gaining career insight from a fellow professional.

The program will be overseen and administered by the chapter’s Professional Advisory Roundtable (PAR). The program’s goal is to provide both the Mentor and the Protégé with a rewarding professional relationship that is mutually advantageous.

Please check back in early 2012 for information about and application for the 2012-13 Mentor Program.
